Communications Manager

About the job

As the Communications Manager, you will work closely with the Single Thread team to plan, produce, and oversee the execution of all communications activities, including media materials, event promotion, website content, and social media platforms. 

You will work with the Marketing Director to manage the Single Thread brand across all platforms and you will be the primary contact person for all branding initiatives during the summer and fall of 2023.

This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the creation of a unified Single Thread communications plan which will incorporate all of our projects across all media channels and working collaboratively with our production teams to create effective media;

  • Managing social media engagement activities (including crafting, uploading, and tracking posts across various social media platforms);

  • Budgeting sponsored posts on social media platforms

  • Overseeing creation of social media and website templates, with adherence to brand guidelines;

  • Updating website content with latest project additions

  • Collaborating with marketing and branding professionals on how to best position our brand in relation to existing cultural products;

  • Providing live support during Single Thread events;

  • Representing Single Thread at community events and artistic festivals;

  • Working with project teams to ensure robust documentation, capturing and reporting of events and assist in archiving event materials.

This a full-time position with flexible working hours and regular online communication and periodic in-person meetings.

Target start date: July 4, 2023

Number of weeks: 8

Hourly wage: $18 (35 hours/week)

Qualifications

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period (as per Canada Summer Jobs funding requirements).

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Experience in event marketing and communications is an asset.

  • Experience with virtual events, events in the arts or tech sector, and social media management is an asset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write for different audiences. 

  • Able to work well independently and meet deadlines.
    Highly organized with attention to detail.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite. 

  • Content creation skills are strongly valued. 

  • Existing relationships with Canadian media is an asset.

  • Passion for and/or a creative practice rooted in immersive theatre and/or XR is a strong asset.
